The Wasdell Group has acquired Polypouch (UK) Ltd, a Hemel Hempstead-based flexible packaging specialist, in its third acquisition in six months. The deal completed on 4th September 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The acquisition follows Wasdell's purchase of Medical Graphics UK Ltd in March 2026 and the former Indivior manufacturing facility in Hull, completed in July. The Group described the run of deals as the fastest period of expansion in its recent history.
Polypouch supplies custom and stock pouches to customers across the food and drink, health and beauty, pet care, vitamins and supplements, and industrial sectors, with a focus on sustainable packaging including recyclable, compostable and biodegradable materials. Its range spans stand-up pouches, foil, kraft and spout pouches, flat-bottom bags, resealable and clear pouches, and sachets, with more than 350 packaging options supported by custom printing and an in-house design team.
Founded in 2010 as S. Frankel Limited by Stephen Frankel, the company serves customers across the UK, Europe and further afield. It employed an average of 13 staff in the year to 31 December 2024, up from eight a year earlier.
Polypouch does not publish a profit and loss account, having filed accounts under the small companies exemption. Its most recent filed accounts, for the year to 31 December 2024, show net assets of £502,491, up from £465,973 a year earlier. The company held cash of £193,064 and current assets of just over £1 million at the year end.
Stephen Frankel and Samantha Frankel stepped down from the board on 4 September 2026, with Daniel Tedham and Martin Tedham appointed as directors. The company's registered office has moved to Wasdell's Swindon base. Sam Frankel is set to become managing director of Polypouch, suggesting some form of earnout mechanism may be part of the deal.
The acquisition extends Wasdell's capabilities into flexible, sustainable packaging, alongside its core pharmaceutical, medical device and nutraceutical manufacturing, packaging and third-party logistics operations. Founded in 1971 and headquartered in Swindon, Wasdell also operates a European base in Dundalk, Ireland.
Donna Grey, Supply Chain Director at the Wasdell Group, said: "This investment enhances our ability to support customers across their entire supply chains. Alongside our contract manufacturing, packing and 3PL services, we can now offer even greater capability in sourcing and supplying the right packaging solutions, in the right materials and quantities, to meet our customers' needs.”
"As supply chains become increasingly complex and vulnerable to disruption, this acquisition provides us with greater control and further strengthens the resilience of our end-to-end offering. By welcoming the Polypouch team and their extensive expertise into Wasdell, we are even better positioned to deliver reliable packaging solutions, and the robust supply-chain support our clients depend on."
Stephen Frankel, founder of Polypouch, said: "I'm incredibly proud of what we've built at Polypouch and of the team and customer relationships that have been central to our success. Joining the Wasdell Group feels like a natural next step for the business, giving us the opportunity to build on those foundations with the backing, expertise and resources of a much larger organisation.”
Daniel Tedham, Chief Executive of the Wasdell Group, said: "Bringing Polypouch into Wasdell is an important part of our wider strategy. Their specialist expertise in pouch packaging complements our existing capabilities and strengthens our ability to help customers navigate the changing regulatory and sustainability landscape, including the requirements of EPR and PPWR.”
"Pouches are becoming an increasingly favoured packaging format as customers look for more sustainable solutions, and we see significant opportunities to support this transition. We are delighted to welcome the Polypouch team to Wasdell."
Wasdell said the integration of the two businesses would now begin, with further detail to follow.
