Global Sustainable Buildings Consultancy (GSBC) has acquired Cudd Bentley, a sustainable engineering consultancy with sites in Berkshire, Southampton, London and Manchester. The acquisition of the Sunninghill-headquartered company takes GSBC to more than 200 engineers and sustainability specialists.
Cudd Bentley, which was founded in 1978 and has been employee-owned since 2023, provides building services engineering and sustainability consultancy services. The firm serves the education, commercial, residential, healthcare, public and heritage sectors.
GSBC’s latest acquisition adds Cudd Bentley to a group that also comprises QODA, ESD, TGA and VZDV, building a national platform of specialist consultancies that can support clients across every stage of the building lifecycle.
Following the acquisition, Cudd Bentley will continue to operate under its existing brand, retaining the firm’s leadership, culture and client relationships while gaining access to the investment and resources offered by a larger group.
GSBC Chief Corporate Development Officer Stephen Hawkins called the deal “a defining moment” for the group, adding that reaching the milestone of 200 specialists “reflects the strength, depth and resilience we are building to support our clients for the long term.”
He continued: "From the beginning, our ambition has been to bring together outstanding consultancies that are recognised for technical excellence, trusted client relationships and a commitment to creating better buildings. Cudd Bentley is exactly that type of business. Their reputation, culture and expertise make them an exceptional addition to the group.”
"As the challenges facing the built environment become increasingly complex, clients need trusted partners with the breadth of expertise, capacity and resilience to deliver integrated solutions.”
"By bringing together leading specialist consultancies while preserving the identity and culture that make each business successful, we're creating a consultancy group that is genuinely greater than the sum of its parts."
Steve Bainbridge, Managing Director of Cudd Bentley, said that, as an employee-owned business, finding the right long-term partner was the most important decision the firm could make for its staff and clients, adding that GSBC shares the same values.
Bainbridge continued: "What impressed us most was their determination to preserve the culture, independence and client focus that have made Cudd Bentley successful for so many years. Joining the group allows us to build on everything we've achieved while creating exciting new opportunities for our clients, our employees and the future growth of the business."
