Sumer Group company BHP has expanded through a merger with a fellow South Yorkshire accountancy and business advisory firm. The merger with Allen West & Foster brings a team of 18 experienced professionals into BHP, while providing the target company’s clients with access to a wider range of services and a deeper pool of expertise.
According to BHP, Sheffield-based Allen West & Foster has built a strong reputation as a chartered accountancy and business advisory practice and the deal is seen as significantly strengthening the firm’s presence in Sheffield. Following the acquisition, the company will continue to operate from its existing base in Sheffield.
BHP co-managing partner Lisa Leighton called BHP “a highly respected firm with deep roots in South Yorkshire.”
Leighton continued: “This merger strengthens our regional presence, creates new opportunities for our people and brings additional expertise to the clients we serve."
Fellow BHP co-managing partner Hamish Morrison added: "Their excellent reputation and strong client relationships in Sheffield perfectly complement our mission to champion SMEs throughout the UK. This merger represents another significant step in our ambitious growth strategy and ability to deliver high-quality, locally focused professional services, backed by the scale of a national group and will hopefully be the first of many similar deals."
Calling the acquisition by BHP an “exciting new chapter” for the firm, Allen West & Foster managing partner Stephen Allen said: “Our clients will benefit from enhanced service capabilities while maintaining the personal relationships and local knowledge they value. We're proud to join an organisation that shares our commitment to supporting SME businesses and the communities they serve."
BHP has a history dating back 150 years and has more than 420 colleagues, operating from offices in Sheffield, Leeds, York, Cleckheaton and Chesterfield. The company, which generates £37 million in annual fee income, joined Sumer Group on January 1 2026.
