German-headquartered industrial logistics firm Dachser has acquired a longstanding partner company based in Armadare as it seeks to strengthen its network in Scotland and connect companies in the region more closely to European markets.
The firm has acquired Drummond Distribution, which has five locations across Scotland’s densely populated Central Belt area between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Drummond, which was founded in 1927 and generates revenues of around £20 million, has been a Dachser partner since 2008, connecting Scottish customers to the larger firm’s European Logistics network.
The acquisition provides Dachser with approximately 46,500 sq meters of warehouse space in Scotland, as well as a fleet of around 100 trucks and 80 trailers. Dachser currently has no locations within this region, with the deal enhancing its network coverage without creating overlapping structures.
Post-acquisition, the existing Drummond management team, led by director Damon Burns, will maintain business continuity. The company’s current owners will gradually transition out of the business, with the management team subsequently reporting to Dachser UK & Ireland Managing Director Mark Rollinson.
Drummond’s Damon Burns commented: “We have a long-standing and trusting partnership with Dachser. We share the same values. The backing of a family-owned company that has been growing for many years provides our customers and employees with a high degree of security and stability and opens new growth potential for the future.”
Alexander Tonn, COO Road Logistics at Dachser, added: “The acquisition of Drummond strengthens our network in the United Kingdom and sets the course for further growth. Scotland’s export-oriented industry will benefit from seamless and rapid connections to all European economic regions.”
"We’re also very pleased that Drummond’s employees are now becoming an integral part of our Dachser family.”
