A biomass boiler specialist based in the South West has fallen into liquidation, with liquidators now seeking to realise the company’s assets. BBSM Limited, which is based in Tiverton, Devon, provided biomass boiler servicing, maintenance and installation services.
The company entered liquidation earlier this month with 30 jobs lost, with directors attributing its decline to a combination of factors that had arisen over the past 18 months. These included bad debts from customer insolvencies, rising operating costs and losses on a pair of major projects.
The company’s cash flow had also been impacted by customers taking longer to pay, while a number of significant projects were either cancelled or delayed earlier this year. Liquidators were officially appointed on September 1 2026 as the company entered creditors’ voluntary liquidation, with 30 staff made redundant.
Prior to its recent struggles, BBSM Limited, which supported commercial and industrial biomass heating systems across the UK, had experienced rapid growth. The company’s turnover increased to nearly £4 million within five years as it built a substantial customer base that covered the commercial and public sectors.
One of the company’s joint liquidators commented: "BBSM had established an excellent reputation within the biomass heating sector. After encountering various headwinds in recent times, the directors worked hard to explore options to secure the future of the business.”
"Unfortunately, it was not possible to rescue the company as a going concern and there was no alternative to liquidation in the circumstances. Our focus now is on realising the company’s assets for the benefit of creditors, as well as supporting former employees with claims to the Redundancy Payments Service."
In accounts for the year to September 30 2025, BBSM Limited’s fixed assets were valued at slightly over £372,000 and current assets at around £871,000, with total equity standing at £64,579.
