Moor Allerton Golf Club, a Leeds golf club that dates back more than 100 years, has been acquired by Reading-based The Club Company. Established in 1923 on a course designed by Dr Alister MacKenzie, Moor Allerton relocated to its current Robert Trent Jones Sr-designed 27-hole golf course on a 220-acre site in 1970.
The Club Company, which operates 18 country clubs across the country, says it will work closely with Moor Allerton’s members, employees and the wider golfing community following the acquisition.
Richard Calvert, Chief Executive of The Club Company, described Moor Allerton as a club with “a proud heritage, a loyal membership and a reputation that has been built over generations”, saying the firm viewed themselves “not simply as owners, but as custodians, with a responsibility to protect the heritage, traditions and values that have shaped the club for more than a century.”
Calvert continued: "Our approach has always been simple: respect a club's heritage, plan for the long term and continually enhance the experience for members and visitors alike.”
“Great clubs never stand still, and our ambition is to build on the exceptional foundations that already exist at Moor Allerton, drawing on our experience of operating leading country clubs and an unwavering focus on delivering an outstanding member experience, whilst remaining true to the character and values that define the club today."
Club spokesperson Ian Land said that The Club Company shared Moor Allerton's “belief that great clubs should continue to evolve whilst remaining true to the heritage and values that make them unique.”
He continued: "Their proven track record of investing in well-established country clubs, enhancing the customer and member experience, and operating successful country clubs gave us complete confidence that they are the right organisation to build on everything that has made Moor Allerton so special.”
Land added that The Club Company has “the experience, resources and long-term vision” to enable the club to realise its potential while respecting its longstanding traditions and character.
