MKM Building Supplies, a Hull-headquartered building supplies company, has strengthened its presence on the South Coast with the acquisition of the builders’ merchant business of a firm based in New Milton, Hampshire.
The acquisition of the business from New Milton Sand & Ballast (NMSB) creates MKM New Milton and takes the company’s branch network to 149, including specialist HVAC distributor Oceanair.
Post-acquisition, MKM has said that it will be business as usual for the business’ customers, who will now have access to a wider product range and larger stockholding, with further investment planned for the future.
Longstanding NMSB staff Matt Lock and Richard Froggett will become branch directors of MKM New Milton following the transaction.
Matt Lock said that joining MKM would enable the business to realise its aim of becoming a one-stop builders’ merchants, providing backing for investment, an increase in stock and a broader offering for customers, while maintaining the spirit of the business.
Lock continued: "The people are the biggest part of that. Our team has decades of experience between them, they know our customers and they genuinely care about looking after them. We've also always been proud to support local clubs, organisations and community projects, and that's something we'll continue to do.”
"From our first conversations, it was obvious MKM shared those values. They back local people, trust branches to do what's right for their customers and understand how important it is to be part of the community. That's why this felt like the right move for us."
Upon completion of the investment, MKM New Milton will offer 12,500 sq ft of warehouse, retail and trade counter space, along with an increased stockholding and an expanded range covering building materials, timber, plumbing and heating, kitchens and bathrooms.
MKM Building Supplies Chief Executive Kate Tinsley said the business has “a great reputation, strong customer relationships and a team that really knows its local market.”
She continued: "What stood out to us was the way they do business. They're customer-focused, proud of their local reputation and passionate about supporting the communities they serve. That's a great fit with the MKM way.”
"Matt and Richard have a clear vision for where they want to take the business, and we're delighted MKM can help make that happen. We're looking forward to investing in the branch and seeing MKM New Milton grow."
