An opportunity to acquire the assets of a West Yorkshire-based textiles manufacturer has arisen after the company fell into administration and ceased trading. Bulmer & Lumb Group, which was based in Bradford, specialised in dyeing and colour matching for natural and synthetic fibres.
Originally an offshoot of the Smith Bulmer spinning company, the firm opened its first dyehouse in Halifax in 1920, subsequently relocating to its purpose-built Bradford mill in 1960.
The company supplied to Savile Row, high street fashion brands, the military and emergency services, as well as the automotive and aviation industries.
Increased production costs, particularly linked to energy and staffing, led to the business facing ongoing losses. Despite a sale process being undertaken, no credible offers were received and the company ultimately ceased trading on August 20 2026, with all 37 staff made redundant, and administrators being formally appointed on August 21.
An associated business which owns the property is unaffected and continues to operate, as do the third-party tenants occupying the site in Buttershaw, Bradford.
One of the company’s joint administrators commented: "Bulmer & Lumb Group experienced ongoing losses due to rising production costs, a challenge which has led to the decline of the wider UK textile industry over the last 30 years.”
"We undertook a sale process for the business, however, no credible offers were received and unfortunately, the company has ceased trading. Employees are currently being supported with redundancy claims to the government. We are now working to realise the assets, including the specialist dyeing plant and equipment."
In accounts for the year to September 30 2024, Bulmer & Lumb Group Limited’s fixed assets were valued at £1.7 million and current assets at £2.5 million, with net assets amounting to £2.5 million.
Opportunity to acquire a leading CNC metal parts manufacturer, renowned for its high-quality prototypes and established relationships with prestigious clients in motor sports, hypercars, aerospace, and medical sectors.
This is a unique opportunity to acquire a well-established business specialising in the design, sourcing, and distribution of household textiles, boasting a diverse customer base across the UK.
This well-established Romanian manufacturer in Brăila specializes in solar and sun protection systems with a strong B2B network and production capacity of up to 1,000 units per month.
