A longstanding supplier of decorative glass for the home has been rescued in a pre-pack deal that preserves more than 30 jobs. Glossop-based Esquire Glass (Manchester) Limited provides a range of products for kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms, as well as the caravan and leisure markets.
The family-run business had been trading from the same site for more than 55 years, employing 33 staff. However, the firm experienced financial difficulties amid post-pandemic inflation, which put significant pressure on the wider home improvements sector, leading to market contraction and sharp increases in the prices of key materials.
As a result, Esquire Glass saw a decline in turnover, while demand was eroded by changes in consumer spending. A major customer entered into insolvency in January 2026, putting further pressure on the business.
In the wake of this, the company’s directors engaged Leonard Curtis to assess options available to the firm and subsequently market the business and its assets for sale.
Mike Dillon and Katy McAndrew of Leonard Curtis were subsequently appointed as joint administrators of Esquire Glass (Manchester) Limited on July 27 2026, completing a pre-pack sale of the business to ESGM Limited on the same day.
Joint administrator Mike Dillon said: “This is a highly satisfactory outcome for a long standing family business that had run into difficulties, many of which were not of its own making. The pre-pack sale enables the business to keep trading, safeguard jobs and continue to service its customers.”
Paul Lockett, Esquire Glass (Manchester) Ltd Managing Director, commented: “As an established business, we encountered a series of knocks brought about by the wider economic downturn. Leonard Curtis and its wider team have helped to put the business back on a secure footing for the future.”
In accounts for the year to September 30 2024, Esquire Glass (Manchester) Limited’s fixed assets were valued at around £2.2 million and current assets at approximately £3 million, with net assets totalling slightly over £2 million.
Cerberus Receivables Management, Cerberus Asset Management and the Landwood Group were instructed by the joint administrators to assist in the sale process, with Leonard Curtis Legal helping to draft the sale contract.
